KOTA KINABALU: Sabah football received another honour when the Sabah FA President Datuk Anifah Aman was named as the team manager of the national Under-23 football team for the Asian Games in Doha next month.
Anifah, who is also the Vice President of the FA of Malaysia, is no stranger to the squad, as he has been with the team for more than a year now.
He was also the team manager for the same squad in the last SEA Games in the Philippines last year.
Sabah FA Executive Secretary Harry Baking when contacted said that by having Anifah leading the national team, it shows that Sabah is not lacking behind in terms of football in the country.
“Our President is a capable man and has good leadership qualities. He has been with the national team for quite some time now, and I’m very sure he will do an excellent job for the team,” said Harry.
Besides Anifah, two Rhinos – Ronny Harun and Es Lizuan Zahid – also made it to the squad.
Yesterday, the FAM released the name-list of its full squad for the Games, and Ronny, the Rhinos’ skipper and Es Lizuan were among those in the 20-member squad.
National skipper (senior team) Kaironnissam Sahabuddin was also roped into the squad at the 11th hour replacing injured striker Rudie Ramli.
Kaironnissam is one of the three seniors in the team. The other two are Norhafiz Zamani Misbah and Mohd Hardy Jaafar.
