KOTA KINABALU: Beverly FC look set to seal their ticket to the Premier League next season when they take on lowly Kor RAMD of Melaka in a FAM Cup League tie at the Penampang Stadium today.
A draw would be good enough for Beverly FC to confirm their promotion (to the Premier League) as the one point would enable them to finish at least second in the nine-team standings.
For the record, the top two teams will gain automatic promotion with the bottom two in the current Premier League demoted to the FAM Cup, which is dubbed as the country’s third division league.
With only three matches to go, Beverly FC sit comfortably on top of the standings on 32 points, six points ahead of their closest rivals Proton FC, who have played one match more than the table toppers.
And with Beverly FC playing two of the three remaining matches on home soil, they are looking good to emerge as winners.
After today’s clash, they will take on PBD Kuala Terengganu on May 27 before concluding their fixtures away to FELDA United FC of Kuala Lumpur on June 3.
However, team manager Mat Amin Samsuddin is not taking any chances despite the fact that they are facing an opponent they thrashed 3-0 in their first encounter away from home in February.
“This is a tricky encounter. So we must be prepared because we all know that they (Kor RAMD) have nothing to lose.
“On our part, this is a game that we must try to pick up at least a point so that we can complete our campaign without any pressure.
“We have three matches left to play, including tomorrow’s battle, so obviously I’m quite confident that we will make it,” Mat Amin said.
“All the players are available for the clash, so we will have the chance to play our best squad in our quest for a draw at the least,” he said.
