Gamba Osaka made sure the Asian League Championship stays in Japan after Urawa Reds won it last year. They defeated Adelaide United of Australia in stunning fashion, trouncing them 5-0 over two legs with the second one played in Adelaide last Wednesday. They first won 3-0 in Osaka before their latest 2-0 win away.
With the win, Gamba secured a quarter-final spot during World Club Cup in December which will be played in Japan. Adelaide meanwhile will have to secure their place first by facing Oceania representatives Waitakere United.
Among the teams who will be in action during the tournament are European Champion Manchester United, Copa Libertadores winners LDU Quito of Ecuador, the reigning South American champions, and CONCACAF Champions Cup holders Pachuca of Mexico.
