KOTA KINABALU: Harimau Muda scored a last-gasp winner as they inflicted Sabah with more misery in the Premier League challenge at the Likas Stadium last night.
The match was heading for a scoreless draw but out of the blue Abdul Shukur Jusoh scored an easy goal inside the three minutes added time to eventually help his side maintain their top spot in the League.
Abdul Shukur was given freedom inside the penalty box as the exhausted Rhinos merely managed to look on when he slotted home the late winner from close range.
In fact, both teams had equal chances at each other’s goalmouths with Harimau Muda’s Md Fandi Othman being the first to test Sabah custodian Harold John.
But his 9th minute free-kick from just outside the penalty box was palmed away by Harold for a fruitless corner.
Then in the 24th minute, Zainizam Marjan’s glancing header off a cross from the right side of the field by Billyton Vun Ket Ming went inches wide.
Those were the only two decent chances both teams created inside the first 45 minutes.
After the break, Ahmad Aminuddin was presented with an opportunity to put his side into the lead when he only had Harold to beat, but fortunately for Sabah, Harold blocked his attempt.
Zaykiel Leong also had one chance at goal, but unfortunately his powerful header off a corner taken by Billy was cleared off the line by the Harimau Muda defender.
Thamil Arasu also squandered a golden opportunity for the visitors as his close range shot went above the crossbar.
And in the 77th minute, second-half substitute Wong Sai Kong saw his free-kick from just outside the D-box sail inches above the crossbar.
Not long after, Gary Stevene saw his powerful long-range effort blocked by Harold.
But as the match headed for a draw, Abdul Shukur poked home an easy goal from inside the box.
The defeat has left Sabah with a mammoth task of making a decent finish in the League.
