SABAHAWKS, formerly known as the Rhinos started on a high when they defeated the still-winless and bottom team MP Muar Johor 4-0 in Likas Stadium last night.
The confidence-boosting game was dominated by the home team throughout the whole match. The goals were scored by Alto Linus and Mohd Farid Ideris in the first half.
The other 2 goals were scored from the penalty spot late in the second half through Mohd Farid Saibun and Zainizam Marjan, who made a come-back from injury at the start of the second half.
However even with the four goals scored by Sabah, don’t think the problems are over and the team has finally played to their true ability. MP Muar is a new club, playing in their first season as a professional team and judging from the way they play, it is no wonder they are rooted at the bottom of the table.
They were not able to capitalize on the many mistakes that Sabah players made during the game. The home players should realise that they will need to improve as the league goes on and improve fast!
Their real test would come on Tuesday as they host Kedah for the first leg of the FA Cup first round in Likas.
The game however is a much-needed 3 points for the team, especially for the Sabah FA who replaced the team’s mascot with the Hawk. Majority of the fans are still not convinced that changing the team’s mascot was a good move.
