Three Sabah Reserve League players were charged in the Magistrate’s Court here Wednesday with housebreaking and theft.
Locals Dendiy Lowa, 19, Leopold Alphonso Otong 20 and a 17-year old boy claimed trial before Magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusuf to breaking into Unit No 414, fourth floor Likas Square Condotel, Likas at 5.30am on Jan23 and stealing RM1,070 and a handphone.
The offence, under Section 457 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to 14 years on conviction.
Chief Inspector Ismail Mohd Razali proposed bail at RM8,000 for each accused.
However, counsel Nelson Anggang and Loretto S. Padua, who represented the trio, applied for a lesser bail amount.
Nuruhuda set April 11- 13 this year for trial and offered Dendiy and Leopold bail at RM2,000 with RM600 deposited with their parents as sureties, while the boy was released on a bail of RM1,500 with RM500 deposited with his parents as sureties.
The trio, accompanied by their family and relative members, posted bail.
