Kelantan claimed their first Superleague title with a hard-fought 2-1 win over homester Sabah in Likas.
The Red Warriors needed a win to ensure that they grab the title, with Selangor and Terengganu waiting in the wings in case they didn’t get the points needed. The visitors showed just how much they wanted the title, taking the lead after only 7 minutes through Norshahrul Idhlan Talaha, shooting past the hapless Sabah goalie Azizon off a long throw.
Sabah threw everything they had, even though they didn’t have anything left to play for.
Norshahrul however doubled their lead in the 75th minute after Sabah lost possession in their own half.
If Kelantan thought they have the title wrapped up, they were wrong as Sabah scored just 2 minutes later through Razlan Otto. It set the scene for a frantic last 13 minutes or so with both teams attacking each other.
However Kelantan held on much to the joyous celebration of more than a hundred Kelantan fans who flew all the way here to support their team.
At the other end of the table, fallen giant Pahang will accompany Perlis to the Premier League, while PKNS and Sarawak will play in the Superleague next season.
